Victory

With on-going developments in technology & materials The Knee Centre is excited to now offer the thinnest & lightest brace ever offered to date; the VICTORY, a TRU-custom design!

The design shown includes our new Tibial Containment System (TCS).  The TCS compliments the brace design by providing greater ACL support as proven in a report completed by the University of Waterloo (2012).  This design is available on the Victory, Accelerator, and Bladerunner custom knee braces.

Neutralizer O.A.

The Neutralizer is for the person with medial or lateral Osteoarthritis.  The Neutralizer corrects the knee alignment to a "neutral" position preventing bone on bone contact that creates pain in the knee.  This type of brace is often referred to as an "unloader" style arthritis knee brace.

This proven technology permits reduction of knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. Increased comfort and stability from a brace can lead to greater mobility and enjoyment of recreational activities.  This alternative is a great solution when surgery is not yet an option or will be a long wait.

Flex X

The Flex X is a cost sensitive option that is manufactured with the same design principles as the Double X.  This design also works well for post operative patients.  The plastic shells are easily moldable for quick effective adjustments.

Accelerator

The Accelerator is another one of our custom graphite knee orthoses.  This design works very well for hyperextension control and for ACL deficient knees.  This sleek, open framework design is very comfortable and lightweight.

Double X

The Double X knee brace is not like most knee braces.  This design offers a tremendous amount of support.  If you have multiple ligamentous injuries and need a brace to support your knee then this is the brace for you.  The Double X is great for a demanding user and those that participate in outdoor activities.

Motocross Double X

In this version we have altered the traditional Double X design.  The most obvious change to the Double X is a molded patella cup that can be easily removed by the rider if not required for other activities.  The patella cup can be personally customized to your requirements (i.e. maple leaf, numbers, lettering)

Bladerunner

The Bladerunner is a great compliment to our line of knee braces.  The design is flexible and has a very low profile.  The brace is very lightweight usually weighing around 500 grams.  This brace can be used for mild ligament injuries and for hyperextension control.

Prosthetic Knee Orthosis (P.K.O.)

We have taken our traditional Double X design and have incorporated the demands for a Below Knee (B.K.) amputee.  This design shall give a B.K. amputee the option of applying the brace to their socket when needed for more demanding activities.  The brace is easily applied with velcro and straps.

Hg80 Knee Sleeve

MUELLER-exclusive HYDRACINN™ fabric is the moisture-wicking catalyst for maintaining superior support with heat management.  Base sleeve is made of antimicrobial fabric that is uniquely breathable, extremely soft to the touch with flatlock seams, and features a conforming hourglass design.  Inner grip strips complete the anti-sweat/non-slip design to help prevent brace migration and preserve high-performance support.

GenuTrain Knee Braces

These new and innovative products are now available at Karl Hager Limb & Brace including the GenuTrain series for common knee issues. These German engineered and manufactured medical goods are unlike anything else in the marketplace. What makes these products so unique is the one piece medical grade compression active knit and the various viscoelastic pads that most designs contain.

Some of the specific features of the braces include:

1)      Integrated Donning Aid - makes the product significantly easier to put on.
2)      Soft Popliteal Area - a particularly thin active knit fabric at the hollow of the knee which increases wearing comfort, especially during movement.
3)      Sizing Option - wide range of sizing options that includes eight different sizes.
4)      Relaxed edges - the compression applied by the support eases off at the edges.
5)      Breathable - the one piece active knit is gentle on the skin and regulates moisture levels.

Over Sleeve

Undersleeve

A material blend of supplex and lyrca provides a soft, wicking material that promotes a better knee brace wearing experience.

Foot Orthotics

For many people, foot discomfort can be a debilitating experience affecting their every day activities. In general the feet are very complicated structures consisting of numerous bones, muscles, and other tissues that constantly handle shock-absorbing requirements while moving us from one place to the next. In most cases this discomfort can be prevented with a pair of foot orthoses. The relief provided is obtained by providing support to the structures of the feet utilizing various materials and casting techniques. After conducting a thorough assessment the Certified Orthotist determines what materials and casting technique to use. It is important to review each patient’s condition independently to be able to provide the correct foot orthoses for their pathology.
Ankle Braces

We have different styles of ankle braces available that can be used with various sporting activities.  A Certified Orthotist will again assess you and select the best brace for the various activites you participate in.

Pediatric Orthopedic Care

Over the years Karl Hager Limb & Brace has established itself as a leader in the treatment of various orthopedic conditions using custom made devices. During this time, many people were not aware of our capacity to work with children for their bracing needs. Our technical experience is vast, but from time to time we can provide greater benefit to our patients by outsourcing to leading companies for their particular expertise.  Cascade Dafo is one of those companies.

As the leader in innovation, design, and manufacturing of dynamic orthoses for children, Cascade Dafo, Inc. introduced the first Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthosis (DAFO®) more than 25 years ago. Focused on the mobility challenges of young patients, the entire company is passionate about helping children lead healthier, happier lives.

Their products are primarily geared toward pediatric patients, most of whom have neuromuscular challenges, but many adults also benefit from their innovative design concepts. We also believe, just like Cascade, that better mobility gives all children and adults a wider range of experiences, more success in the activities they choose, and ultimately more control over their lives. At Cascade, product design, technical support, educational programs for practitioners, and research and development are all focused on improving the effectiveness of our braces and the patient experience. Cascade has numerous options in regards to what they can produce but here are three designs we commonly use.

Clubfoot AFO Treatment

Clubfoot is a common birth defect that affects one in 1000 babies.  The term clubfoot is used when a baby is born with one or both feet twisted inward and pointing down.  Clubfoot is not painful and early treatment can correct almost all cases.

Working alongside the rehabilitation team from the Stollery Children's Hospital Clubfoot Clinic, we are pleased to provide follow up care once the casting and other procedures are completed.

If you would like to meet one of our Orthotists and discuss the treatment plan for your son or daughter please do not hesitate to book a no charge consultation.  Beside are the various Ponseti-Mitchell Orthoses that we provide showing the standard adjustable bar and the Dobbs bar which promotes more active movement.

Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO/Leg Brace)

Ankle foot orthoses (AFO’s) play an integral role in the management of foot drop/drop foot for a variety of different pathologies. With a wide range of options available for designs and materials, the function of each AFO can be finely tuned to meet the individual needs of each user. Although the requirements of each individual may differ, providing an AFO that facilitates the safest and most energy efficient movement pattern is the primary goal.

Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO)

These orthoses are availble in many different styles and are custom made.  We manufacture the KAFO's typically using plastic and graphite.

Our office is also certified to manufacture and supply a KAFO using the Horton Stance Control knee joint.  This knee joint is very advanced and allows those that have difficulty in walking to do so safely and more efficiently.

The Carbon IQ joint system uses a proven technical thermoplastic strengthened with carbon fibre. Offering both the benefits of plastic and carbon unified to form an innovative, high-quality material combination for knee and ankle joints. The NEW Carbon IQ joint system is lightweight, strong, durable, safe and easy to lock.

It is approved for a body weight of 220lbs. Indications include partial or complete paralysis of the leg muscles requiring fitting with an orthosis to ensure safe standing and walking. This joint system can be used for various purposes, such as cerebral palsy, post-polio syndrome, frontal and sagittal ankle/knee axis deviations, spina bifida, or traumatic paraplegia. General nerve lesions: loss or weakness of the dorsiflexor or plantar flexor muscles; deficiency or weakness of the knee extensor muscles or also candidates for this new technology.

Used in combination with our prepreg carbon fiber laminations there is no lighter or supportive system available. For more information on the CarbonIQ joint system or other Ottobock products, please contact Karl Hager Limb & Brace at 780-452-5771 ext. 0.

We now offer a very unique prodcut from Exos.  Exos technology is the world’s first dry heat, fully customizable, adjustable, reconformable, waterproof splinting, casting and bracing system. This revolutionary technology is designed to dramatically change the clinical practices for external musculoskeletal support and stabilization.

The technology consists of three layers of high tech polymers and foam that when laminated together create a lightweight matrix with features that have multiple benefits for our clinicians and patients. Exos products are easy to use and feature a clean, waterless application that does not require stockinette or cotton padding. They are simple to remove and do not necessitate the use of messy, loud, often disturbing cast saws. Exos products provide excellent stabilization with superior comfort for greater patient compliance.

Common applications/devices are for arthritis, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, night splint for ulnar neuropathy, thumb spica, etc.

Elbow Supports

If you have an elbow problem there are a few options on how to brace the elbow.  We do have the ability to order you a support as well as custom fabricate one for you.  After being assessed you will be advised of the best support for you.

Shoulder Supports

There are many shoulder supports available that utilize various materials.  Typically a neoprene style with non elastic straps is most common.  The type of support used would reflect the degree of the injury and also the activites in which the device will be used.

Neck Supports

There are various cervical (neck) bracing options available depending on the treatment required.  Most items would be ordered reflecting patients needs and size.

Spinal/Back Supports

At Karl Hager Limb & Brace, we specialize in helping to select the best orthosis for the treatment required. This includes either custom fitting off the shelf orthoses or manufacturing full custom braces. With all items we adjust their fit as required and provide guidelines for comfort and proper wear.
